General Anesthesia

Dental Anesthesia for Dental Phobia in Leesburg

At Cochran Family Dental, we do everything we can to make our patients feel comfortable. We want our patients to feel at home and relaxed in our office, and strive to create a safe and warm environment where patients can get their dental work done without dental anxiety or stress. Sedation dentistry services are available before every procedure, but for more intensive procedures, we also offer general anesthesia as an option.

What is General Anesthesia?

General anesthesia is a type of sleep dentistry. After other sedation dentistry services, patients are relaxed and comfortable, but fully awake, and able to act and answer questions. Other sedation dentistry services reduce sensitivity and make procedures more comfortable, but do not make patients fully numb to all sensation. General anesthesia patients are unconscious throughout their procedures and do not feel anything until the effects of the anesthesia wear off and the patient is awake again.

Typically, general anesthesia is not necessary for most procedures, but may be recommended for wisdom teeth removal surgery, or for patients who experience extreme dental phobia.

The Benefits of General Anesthesia

  • Comfort – Patients who participate in general anesthesia are unconscious during their procedure and experience no sensitivity or sensation until after the procedure is finished.
  • Relief – For patients who experience extreme dental anxiety, general anesthesia can provide relief and a way to get meaningful dental work done.
  • Convenience – General anesthesia patients sleep through their procedure, and don’t have to sit or wait in the dental chair while their dentist is working. For general anesthesia patients, long procedures can seem over in an instant.
